A 10,500-ton Liberty ship named after Jack Singer, the Jewish war correspondent who covered the Pacific front for the International News Service, was launched here at the yards of the California Shipbuilding Company.
Singer, who lived in New York prior to becoming a war correspondent, was killed when the aircraft carrier Wasp was sunk by a Jap submarine in the Guadalcanal campaign. He was 27.
