A plea to save American unversities for Ameica against the inroads of Nazi propagandists masquerading as research professors was made yesterday by Abraham L. Sacher, of the University of Illinois, at a dinner in celebration of the 90th anniversary of the B’nai B’rith. More than 1,000 people attended the gathering.
“We have lost the universities of Roumania, we have lost the universities of Poland,” he declared. “Let us not awake to find that we have lost the American universities.” He decribed his encounters with these so-called research professsors in different parts of the country. The Hibbel Foundation, which combats this evil, must be extended to include many additional universaities, he said.
Judge Myron Sulzberger, of New York, told of the activities of the Anti-Defamation League, characterizing it as a Jewish secret service in bringing to the surfacethe hidden machinations of detractors. He extolled the Tydings Resolution, and expressed the hope that in would soon pass the Senate.
Senator William H. King, of Utah, deplored the mil taristic spirit now animating Germany and Japan. He condemned Htlerism. characterizing it as despotism and tyranny, and paid high tribute to the Palestine rehabilitation program.
At the dinner, the local B’nai B’rith lodges, under the chairmanship of Joseph L. Kun, pledged themselves to raise $25,000 within the next two weeks.
