Mayor John V. Lindsay said at a City Hall press conference yesterday that he strongly supported Israel’s insistence on direct peace negotiations with its Arab neighbors. Mayor Lindsay said in reply to a question that “Israel cannot be compelled to agree to a solution imposed from without. Only by a face-to-face meeting, with no pre-conditions on either side, can the problem be resolved and peace brought to the Middle East.”
