The Hebrew department of the Ukrainian Academy of Science was liquidated as the result of a two year campaign conducted against the department by the Jewish Communists.
Prof. Eli Gallant, who headed the department, was ordered to transfer the department’s archives and library to the Institute of Yiddish Culture at the Academy.
