The liquidation of Jews in the Nazi puppet state of Croatia is reaching its final stage, according to information reaching here today. Very few Jews are left in the city of Zagreb, the Croatian capital, and almost none in any other town. Those still permitted to live in Zagreb are physicians and Jews married to “Aryans.”
Rabbi Freiberger, one of the leading Zagreb rabbis, is reported to have “disappeared” from the city shortly after the arrest and expulsion of Dr. E. Cohn, the president of the Zagreb Jewish Community. Many Jews are committing suicide in the camps to which they are sent for forced labor.
A Serbian officer who succeeded in reaching here after two years under Nazi rule stated that the Jahnice camp, near Belgrade, which was originally used for Jewish prisoners, does not have a single Jewish occupant now. “All Jews in the camp have been killed by the Nazis,” he declared.
