A list of prominent singers and actors, dismissed from the State Opera House and the State Theatre under the Hungarian anti-Jewish law, has just been published here.
The list includes Conductor Anton Fleischer, a member of the Opera House Orchestra for 24 years; the famous Mozart singer, Gitta Halsz, a member for 21 years; Gabrielle Relle, 15 years; Flora Barsony, niece of former Justice Minister Wilhelm Vazsonyi and a member 28 years. Other dismissed Opera House stars are Andor Lendvay, the baritone, David Ney and Edith Diosi.
Dismissed State Theatre actors include the following: Julius Gal, honorary lifetime member and professor at the State Academy of Dramatic Art, an actor 57 years and a member of the State Theatre for 39 years; the prominent Shakespearean actor, Julius Bartos, and Tibor Rubny. In addition, almost all Jewish members of the chorus of both organizations have been dismissed.
