The Government has clamped a rigid censorship on all reports of anti-Jewish incidents in the provinces and has prohibited articles replying to a proposal by Lietuvos Aidas, Government organ, that Jews be segregated in “ghetto” beaches at bathing resorts. Only publication of an official statement (reported in Sunday’s NEWS) on the proposal is permitted. It is strongly believed that the proposal, which has been followed by an alarming increase in anti-Semitic incidents in resorts and provincial centers, is to some extent supported by official circles. This view is given credence by a paragraph in the official statement which advises the Jews to “remove the causes giving rise to such opinions.”

The next issue of the Jewish War Veterans’ organ will not appear, as a protest against suppressing of an article answering Leituvos Aidas.
