Lithuania gave Israel hundreds of Torah scrolls saved from the Holocaust. “At the same time that Lithuanians were killing and murdering, there were Lithuanians who put their lives at stake in order to save these remnants of what was Lithuanian Jewry,” Israel’s deputy foreign minister, Michael Melchior, said at a ceremony Wednesday in Vilnius.
