Lithuania is investigating a 77-year-old man living in the United States for alleged war crimes. Petras Bernotavichius is suspected of having participated in the arrest and execution of Lithuanians and Jews during World War II. Since it gained its independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, Lithuania has yet to prosecute any individuals for war crimes.
