Professor Waldemaras. Prime Minister of Lithuania, attempted to clear the government of the charges that Henrikas Rabinowitz, Lithuanian Consul General in New York, had been recalled from his post because he is a Jew. The premier stated in an interview with the press that Mr. Rabinowitz resigned of his own accord.

The correspondent of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency learns from reliable sources that the statement of the Premier is at variance with the facts.

Following the recent coup d’etat when the present government came into power, the Prime Minister stated that Rabinowitz would be recalled “because we don’t want a Jew to be our Consul.” Although it is true that Mr. Rabinowitz submitted his resignation, it was done at the request of the government.
