Majority of Teachers in Secondary Schools Due to Lose Posts (Jewish Telegraphic Agency)
The majority of Jewish teachers in the Jewish secondary schools in the Republic of Lithuania will have to leave their posts by an order of the Ministry of Education.
The ordinance now issued requires all teachers in secondary schools to pass examinations showing a thorough knowledge of the Lithuanian language. As the Lithuanian language has been taught only during the past ten years, since Lithuania’s independence, the number of teachers who have a thorough knowledge of the language is limited. The danger is also presented that some of the Jewish schools may be closed down because of the lack of qualifying teachers under the new ordinance.
