Lithuania’s president vowed that his country would not end its efforts to prosecute accused Nazi-era war criminals. Valdas Adamkus’ comments, made on the 55th anniversary of the liquidation of the Vilna Ghetto, came two weeks after a Lithuanian court indefinitely suspended the trial of Aleksandras Lileikis, citing his failing health. Lileikis is accused of handing over dozens of Jews to Nazi death squads when he was head of the Nazi-sponsored Lithuanian security police during World War II.
