that while there is some desire for modification of the Nazi policy toward the Jews on the part of certain leaders who have always been personally not in favor of discrimination, there is little likelihood of any pronounced change in policy.

While the report was widely disseminated and received generous space in the British press, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency has been unable to confirm it through its Berlin office or at the German Embassy here.

A spokesman at the German Embassy informed the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that it is completely in the dark as to the entire story and that Berlin has not shed any light on the report.

Officials of Reuters were reluctant to disclose their Berlin source of information, but seemed to place complete reliance on it and the authenticity of the story the source furnished.

A guess ventured by some is that the story has emanated from a source not far from Hermann Goering, Premier of Prussia and minister-without-portfolio in Hitler’s cabinet.

INTERVIEW GOERING

Credence is given this belief because Goering yesterday granted to a Reuters correspondent a comprehensive interview on German problems in general. It is also considered the most plausible explanation for the story, since Goering, as the minister of interior, is known to be the only one of the Nazi ministers who occasionally grants interviews to Jewish leaders.

That the Reuters report has some foundation in fact is further indicated by a dispatch published today in the London News Chronicle from its Berlin correspondent.

Stating that a ray of new hope has appeared for German Jewry, the News Chronicle story states “a new approach to the Jewish question is being discreetly argued among officials of the Nazi party.”

‘ADMIRE THE JEWS’

Supporters of the move, the News Chronicle reports, “assert that they admire the Jews and do not wish to expel them, rather desiring their peaceful cooperation with limits set at Jewish access to State posts.”

The News Chronicle further reports that Zionist leaders are impressed by the alleged new argument of the Nazi leaders and are confidently looking forward to having the ground prepared for a mutual approach toward settlement of the problem.

Thus far, neither of the News Chronicle’s reports has been confirmed from other sources.
