The last two Jewish officials in the Lodz chamber of artisans were unceremoniously ousted from their posts yesterday.
The chamber of artisans is an important factor in the life of this industrial community which has a large Jewish population. Recently, an anti-Semitic coalition secured control of the municipal government but a split over procedure jeopardized its existence and a new election is expected to be ordered.
Since the chamber has the power of granting certificates enabling their holders to work at the crafts, the removal of Jewish officials, it is feared, may affect the number of certificates granted to Jews.
