Disturbances broke out at a session of the Municipal Council today when members of the anti-Semitic National Democratic party introduced a motion to expel from the press gallery all journalists who are Jews as well as those representing the Polish Jewish press.
The government commissar who was present at the Council’s session ordered the motion rejected and not brought up for a vote. This resulted in violent disturbances leading to the breaking up of the session.
The National Democratic aldermen in Lodz constitute a majority in the Municipal Council. The anti-Jewish motion would have passed if the government commissary had not intervened.
Ignati Abramovich Bernstein, engineer of the Chinese Eastern Railway, was killed by Chinese Boxers.
