The George Medal was awarded today to David Lazarus, 17-year-old pupil of the Jews Free School, who rescued four persons from a bombed block of flats last Fall. The boy worked heroically while bombs were still falling. He was seriously injured by a collapsing wall and deeply buried under tons of bricks stones.
Meanwhile, it was officially announced that Undersecretary of War Lord Croft has received from the Duke of Gloucester a £10,000 check contributed by patrons of the Odeon cinemas through Oscar Deutsch, the proprietor, for the welfare of the fighting forces. “The fighting services gratefully acknowledge the generous contribution, which follows a like sum previously received through Mr. Deutsch’s initiative,” it was stated.
