The solution to Israel’s defense and economic problems and to Britain’s strategic position in the Middle East lies in the establishment of a British military base in Haifa, according to responsible leaders of British Jewry, William Frankel, British lawyer, declared here today at a luncheon meeting of the Washington chapter of the American Jewish Committee.
Mr. Frankel, who is AJC’s London representative, said that these leaders believe “such a solution would strengthen the position of both Israel and the western countries immeasurably after the evacuation of Suez.” Reporting on the status of Jews in Great Britain, Mr. Frankel said that the Jewish community there is now the most stable in free Europe.
