DESPITE THE CHECK SUFFERED BY COLONIAL SECRETARY WILLIAM G.A. ORMSBY-GORE IN PRESSING FOR PARTITION OF PALESTINE BEFORE THE LEAGUE OF NATIONS MANDATES COMMISSION, SEVERAL LONDON NEWSPAPERS TODAY CONTINUED TO CALL FOR QUICK ADOPTION OF THE PLAN.
THE MORNING POST, EXTREME CONSERVATIVE PAPER, EDITORIALLY CRITICIZED THE GOVERNMENT FOR HAVING FAILED TO DRIVE THE ENTIRE SCHEME THROUGH PARLIAMENT.
“IF THE ARABS AND JEWS COULD DEVISE AN ARRANGEMENT AGREEABLE TO BOTH IT WOULD BE WELL WORTH CONSIDERING BUT THEY ARE NOT SHOWING AN APPROACH TO ACCOMMODATION,” THE POST DECLARED. “PARTITION, HOWEVER MUCH IT IS A STERN NECESSITY, HOLDS THE FIELD AS THE ONLY PRACTICAL POLICY. IT IS REGRETTABLE THAT THE GOVERNMENT, HAVING CONVINCED THEMSELVES OF ITS WORTH, SHOULD HAVE FALTERED IN PRESSING IT ON PARLIAMENT.”
