The mayor of the London borough Hackney today called on the metropolitan commissioner of police to reimpose the recently-expired ban on political processions. The ban was imposed last March after followers of Sir Oswald Mosley, the British Fascist, created a series of anti-Jewish disturbances.
In his letter to the police commissioner, the Hackney mayor said that “recent events and representations made to me have made it quite plain that the time is not yet opportune for lifting the ban.” He cited a number of recent cases in support of this statement.
