A lengthy article dealing with “the Jewish part in American letters” is included in literary supplement of the Times of London which evaluated American writers. The supplement gave the United States hearty praise for creative talents.
The longer than average article, “A Vocal Group,” asserted that the Jew in America “for most practical purposes is counted in today with the majority.” The article says that the American Jew “finds that his aggressiveness and his shrewdness, his love of the politics of life–like most of his other tags–are transvalued now into assets that pronounce acceptance rather than more tolerance.
“This sense of Jewish difference remains but it is a painless one–easily accommodated to the suburban point of view, easily overlooked, easily moralized if one likes, into the special capabilities and vision of the talented outsider,” the article states.
