COMMENTING ON THE ANDREWS ASSASSINATION, THE TIMES, IN AN EDITORIAL TODAY, CONDEMNS THE ADMINISTRATION FOR WHAT IT TERMS “INCAPACITY TO PROTECT ONE OF ITS ABLEST SERVANTS.”
THE EDITORIAL DECLARES: “THE METHODS OF CONCILIATION WHICH WERE ATTEMPTED DURING LAST YEAR’S OUTBREAK HAVE NOTORIOUSLY FAILED BUT THE LESSONS OF THIS FAILURE HAVE NOT BEEN TAKEN TO HEART. IT HAS MERELY CONFIRMED THE ARAB TERRORISTS IN THEIR BELIEF THAT A MANDATORY ADMINISTRATION, AND PERHAPS A MANDATORY GOVERNMENT, HAVE POSSIBLY NO POWER AND PROBABLY NO WILL TO ENFORCE LAW AND ORDER.”
THE EDITORIAL GOES ON TO STATE THAT ANDREWS’ DEATH IS THE DIRECT CONSEQUENCE OF THE WAVE OF SABOTAGE AND TERRORISM THAT SWEPT PALESTINE LAST YEAR, AND STRESSES THE ROYAL COMMISSION’S STATEMENT THAT THE GRAND MUFTI BEARS A FULL SHARE OF RESPONSIBILITY FOR THESE DISORDERS. THE TIMES ALSO EMPHASIZES THAT SINCE THE JEWS BEGAN REPRISALS, ATTACKS ON THEM HAVE DECREASED.
