Much comment was caused when the will of the late Lord Bearsted, founder of the Shell Oil and Transport Company, was filed for probate.
The will discloses that the estate left by Lord Bearsted amounted to £4,000,000. The death duties or inheritance tax amount to £1,600,000.
No charitable bequests were made in the will, the testator stating that he bad made many donations to charity during his life.
