That Sir Oswald Mosley, founder of the new Fascist Party in England, is sponsoring an anti-Semitic movement in England was ridiculed by the Marquess of Reading in a statement to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency prior to his departure from the United States on the “Aquitania.”
Lord Reading ridiculed the idea that an anti-Semitic movement could find root in England.
It is remarkable, he said, that in American I learned for the first time of the anti-Semitic movement in England. In general there is a tendency here to regard too seriously both Mosley and his new party, the distinguished British statesman declared.
“I regard it as foolish to speak of anti-Semitism in England. The British people have demonstrated on numerous occasions that they are friends of the Jews and I hold that one ought not to take seriously the movement of Sir Oswald Mosley. There are three parties in England, the Conservative, the Liberal and the Labor Parties. All three have frequently evinced their sympathetic attitude toward the Jews,” the Marquess stated.
The Marquess of Reading, accompanied by the Marchioness of Reading, spent several weeks in this country.
