Approval by the directors of the Los Angeles Jewish Community Council and the Jewish Welfare Federation of a merger of the two boards for a three-year period was hailed today as a step toward an eventual unified community organization.
The plans approved at the regular meetings of the two boards, in addition to the board merger proposal, also include replacement of one-third of the combined boards each year starting with the fourth year.
The ultimate composition of the unified Board will be one-third named by social welfare and community agencies which agree to central planning and budgeting; one-third elected by members of organizations presently affiliated with the Jewish Community Council; and one-third elected by contributors to the United Jewish Welfare Fund.
Steve Broidy, Federation president, and Judge Stanley Mosk, JCC president, said special subcommittees of both organizations would work out further details of their merger plans. Subsequently, the Federation will submit its plan to both its general membership and affiliated organizations for anticipated approval. The JCC will do the same with its member organizations.
