Superior Court Judge Lester William Roth, long active in the Jewish community of Los Angeles and in civic and social service organizations, was installed as judge of the District Court of Appeals by Chief Justice Phil Gibson.
Judge Roth, 69, was born in New York and received his law degree from the University of Southern California in 1916. He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps and on his return to civil life in 1919 started a spectacular legal career, with much of his time devoted to government service. He served as Superior Court Judge in Los Angeles from 1931 to 1936 and Justice pro-tem of the District Court from 1934 to 1937.
