A pledge of American labor’s solidarity with the free trade union movement in Israel was delivered to more than 2,000 delegates at the 32nd annual Histadrut campaign convention in California meeting here, in the form of a message from Thomas Ranford, president of the Los Angeles Central Labor Council, on behalf of the merged AFL-CIO and its 900,000 members in this area. The delegates adopted a $300,000 quota for the Histadrut rehabilitation program in Israel.
The representatives of more than 400 fraternal, social, civic and trade union groups meeting here also heard California Attorney General Edmund G. Brown appeal for a mutual security pact and for arms to restore the balance of power in the Middle East. In addition to greetings from Israel President Itzhak Ben Zvi and Premier David Ben Gurion, the convention also heard David Hacohen, a member of Israel’s United Nations delegation, voice Israel’s protest against any proposals to yield Israel territory to neighboring Arab states.
