The discovery of a genuinely “lost tribe” of Jews–in India–has been reported here. The discovery of the Jewish group was made known here after the Israel Ministry of Religions received a letter from the Indian province of Ajamar, signed by the president of the Indian Jewish kehillah, A. A. Isak.
Mr. Isak’s letter said that the Jews had settled in the province of Ajamar some 70 years ago, but that since then no one has known of, or been interested in, the community’s existence. He asked that the Ministry send prayer books, phylacteries, and the text of a prayer for the welfare of the State of Israel. The Ministry announced that it had immediately complied with Mr. Isak’s request.
