Louis Bamberger, retired Newark merchant and outstanding Jewish philanthropist in New Jersey, set a pace for contributors to the Joint Distribution Committee’s German relief drive here, with a personal subscription of $25,000.

It was announced last night at an Initial Gifts meeting of the volunteer county relief drive. The appeal starts next Monday. It will be nonsectarian.

James N. Rosenberg, vice chairman of the Joint Distribution Committee, in addressing the meeting, announced a personal contribution of $500 to the Essex County campaign.

James G. MacDonald, of the Foreign Policy Association, who lately returned from Germany, described current conditions there.

Edgar S. Bamberger, chairman of the local campaign, announced that two other large contributors are Louis V. Aronson, $2,500 and Harry A. Braelow, $1,200. Other large donations will be announced at the dinner Monday, at which Rabbi Jonah B. Wise, Mayor Ellenstein, Mr. Rosenberg and others will be speakers.
