Louis Lipsky Withdraws from Leadership of the Zionist Organization

Louis Lipsky, president of the Zionist Organization of America, has declared that he is withdrawing his candidacy for re-election to the post of President of the Zionist Organization of America or to any other office within the American organization.

This statement was submitted late Saturday night to the committiee of nine, appointed by the judges committee last week to seek ways and means of bringing about a reconciliation within the Zionist movement in America.

It was stated that the committee of nine has already agreed on a slate for the Administrative Committee to be composed of a board of directors of nine and a committee of forty, which will be submitted to the forthcoming Zionist convention in Pittsburgh. The personnel of this committee was not disclosed.

In withdrawing his candidacy, Mr. Lipsky declared that he has taken this decision in view of the fact that the present controversy has assumed the character of a personal issue and he does not desire to become an obstacle in the way of peace in the Zionist movement. He does not desire to be the object of further personal attacks.

The Jewish Daily Bulletin is informed that Mr. Lipsky tendered his resignation last Monday afternoon, but at that time the Administrative Committee rejected the resignation. At the Saturday afternoon meeting of the Administrative Committee, held at the Commodore Hotel, Mr. Lipsky emphatically declared that notwithstanding any attitude on the part of the Committee, he is determined not to accept reelection. Many members of the Administrative Committee insisted that this statement be withdrawn. Mr. Lipsky, however, persisted and his decision was communicated to the peace committee of nine.
