Lubavitcher Hasidim will mark the 170th anniversary tomorrow of the freeing of the founder of their movement, Rabbi Schneur Zalman, of Liadi, from a Czarist prison where he had been held 53 days on grounds of disloyalty to the regime. The vindication of Rabbi Zalman is regarded by followers of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement as an event of symbolic and historical significance. Ceremonies celebrating the event will take place in Lubavitcher headquarters here and at Kfar Chabad, the movement’s village in Israel.
