Rabbi Joseph Schneursohn, better known as the Lubawitscher Rebbe, his son-in-law, Rabbi Gourary, together with H. Kramer, president of the Agudath Habad, H. Fogelman, vice-president of Agudath Habad and Arthur Rabinovitz of Boston were yesterday received at the White House by President Hoover. The President appeared to be impressed with the modernism and intelligence of the Lubawitscher Rebbe and his son-in-law.
The Lubawitscher Rebbe told the President that before leaving the United States on July 16 he was anxious to pay his respects to Mr. Hoover to tell him how much he appreciates the fact that the Jews have found a real asylum in this country with full religious liberty.
After thanking the President for all the liberties and equalities that Jews enjoy in the United States, Rabbi Gourary said to Mr. Hoover, “We are especially thankful for and appreciate the stand this country of yours took in the recent unfortunate uprising against the Jewish people that took place in Palestine. The attitude on the part of this government in a most lamentable and trying situation again strengthened our admiration for the justice and principles that underly this country.”
