More than 500 persons yesterday attended brief funeral services in Temple Emanu-El for Ludwig Vogelstein, philanthropist and leader of Reform Jewry, who died on Sunday. Rabbi Samuel H. Goldenson officiated at the services.
In accordance with Mr. Vogelstein’s wishes, the services were confined to an organ prelude composed by Lazarre Saminsky; the chant, “O Lord, What Is Man?”; the reading of a psalm and a prayer by Dr. Goldenson; and “Trust in the Lord,” the largo of Handel.
The coffin was temporarily placed in a receiving vault in Salem Fields Cemetery, Brooklyn. Interment will await the arrival of Mrs. Julia Braun-Vogelstein, who is on her way here from Berlin.
