President Heinrich Luebke of the Federal Republic sent New Year’s greetings to Israel today. In his message, the President expressed the hope that the good relations prevailing between Israel and West Germany will be broadened and deepened. Minister of Interior Ernst Benda said today that it should be determined whether the extreme right-wing National Democratic Party is unconstitutional and if so proven, the party should be outlawed. Another Minister, Social Democrat Hans Jurgen Wischnewski, who heads the Ministry for Economic Aid, proposed that the Constitution be amended so that the NPD could be banned. Mr. Wischenewski left today on a five-day visit to Egypt.
(In Frankfurt, the public prosecutor has been asked to investigate the unauthorized publication of Hitler’s autobiography, “Mein Kampf” which has been banned in West Germany since the end of World War II.
(In Jerusalem, the foreign diplomatic corps today extended New Year greetings to President Zalman Shazar of Israel. Greetings on behalf of all of the foreign envoys were read by the dean of the corps, Ambassador Jerome Yancy of Liberia.)
