LYON COHEN 89, PROMINENT MEMBER OF THE JEWISH COMMUNITY OF MONTREAL, CANADA, DIED HERE TODAY.
MR. COHEN WAS PRESIDENT OF THE FIRST CANADIAN JEWISH CONGRESS, WHICH MET IN 1919. WITH S. W. JACOBS, MEMBER OF THE CANADIAN PARLIAMENT, HE FOUNDED THE JEWISH TIMES, FIRST JEWISH PAPER IN CANADA. IN 1923 AND 1924 MR. COHEN WAS CHAIRMAN OF THE CANADIAN COMMITTEE FOR RUSSO-RUMANIAN REFUGEES. HE ORGANIZED A COMMITTEE IN TORONTO FOR REHABILITATING EXILES BROUGHT INTO CANADA.
