The new chief secretary of the Palestine government will be Mark Aitchison Young, now colonial secretary for Sierra Leone, the British Colonial Office announced today. He succeeds Harry Charles Luke, who as acting High Commissioner of Palestine during the riots, was severely criticized by the Jews for his failure to prevent the disturbances. Mr. Luke was recently promoted to the lieutenant governorship of Malta.

There is a coincidence in the appointment of Mr. Young in that Mr. Luke, prior to becoming chief secretary of the Palestine government, was also colonial secretary of Sierra Leone. Mr. Young, who is a Cambridge graduate, served in the Ceylon civil service from 1909 to 1928.
