M. Leon Daudet, the French Royalist leader who is now in exile in Belgium, denies that he is an anti-Semite. In an article published in his paper, “L’ Action Francaise,” he declares that he was never under the influence of Drurnont, the founder of modern French anti-Semitism.
“L’ Universe Israelite” is skeptical about M. Daudet’s declaration and points out that his paper “L’ Action Francaise” is the only paper in France which defends pogroms and the Numerus Clausus. Perhaps, however, it adds, M. Daudet’s declaration is meant as an expression of penitence and a promise for the future. That must be left for the future to show.
