A motion calling on the British Government to secure international recognition for Israel and facilitate the delimitation of the Jewish state’s frontiers equitably for both Palestine disputants was filed today by a number of Liberal and Laborite members of Parliament for the forthcoming political debate in Commons. According to reliable sources, the motion is gaining increasing support from members of all parties.
It is, nevertheless, doubtful whether the motion will come up in view of the recent statement in Commons by Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs Christopher Mayhew in which he said Britain considers Israel’s bid for U.N. membership “premature.” It appears, however, that an opportunity will be found to put into the record the feelings of a large section of the population on the subject.
