One of the most important events in the current social season took place here today when Max M. Shein, local Jewish business man and a former New Yorker, married Senorita Maria Amparo Viderique, sister-in-law of President Abelardo Rodriguez.
The ceremony was held in the Presidential residence, Chapultepec Castle. The President and the Minister of National Economy, Primo Villa Michel, were witnesses for the bride, while Gerson Pappo and engineer Jose Yakovless were the bridegroom’s witnesses.
After the ceremony dinner was served, with Madame Aida S. de Rodriguez, wife of the President and sister of the bride, as hostesses.
The event is drawing attention because of its political significance, uniting as it does a Jew and one of the leading Mexican families.
Shein came here from New York about nine years ago. He is active in the B’nai B’rith and is widely known in local Jewish circles because of his many contributions to Jewish charities. He is thirty years old and owns a doll factory. His mother resides in New York.
Local friends declare his mother first opposed the marriage, but later gave her consent.
