M. Zametkin, one of the oldest Jewish Socialist leaders in America and one of the founders of the Jewish Daily Forward, the largest Yiddish daily newspaper in the world, died early yesterday morning in the Beth Israel Hospital, at the age of 74.
Mr. Zametkin had been ill for the last ten years. He was born in Russia and emigrated to America in 1882. For a number of years he was employed in the needle trades, Later he became an active leader of the trade union movement and a member of the editorial staff of the Jewish Daily Forward.
Funeral services for Mr. Zametkin will be announced today. The funeral will be arranged by the Forward Association, the Workmen’s Circle, the Gewerkshaften and the Socialist party.
