Three Maccabee teams won the honors in the only open event in the Palestine Police sports festival here this week. Three teams wearing the colors of the Maccabee Association placed first, second and third in the open mile relay race.
John Hathorn Hall, chief secretary of the Palestine administration and acting High Commissioner, distributed the awards.
The Palestine Police, British section of the constabulary, and Trans-jordan Frontier Force competed in the various events. Jewish constables were among the prize-winners, the most notable being Sergeant Gershovsky, who won a cup for having the best-trained horses. The sergeant is in the Northern District Police.
Jewish athletes displayed their prowess in a circular Tel Aviv relay race for the Eliezer Kuperstein Cup, trophy established in memory of a Tel Aviv constable who died while on duty. Twelve teams competed, with the Tel Aviv Maccabeans taking first place.
Marantz, Maccabee runner, did the course around Tel-Aviv in 7 minutes, 12 seconds.
