Sir John Maffey, Permanent Undersecretary of State for the Colonies since 1933, will retire on July 1, it was announced today.

Sir John’s retirement is arousing considerable interest in view of his great influence on Palestine policy. His successor will be Sir Arthur C. C. Parkinson, Assistant Undersecretary of State in the Colonial Office since 1931.
