Rabbi Reuben J. Magill, formerly of Springfield, Mass., who assumed the leadership of the congregation of Temple Beth El on March 1, was formally installed as Rabbi before a congregation and assemblage of over 1,200 persons.
Rabbi Magill was installed by Professor Louis Finkelstein of the Jewish Theological Seminary of New York City. Professor Finkelstein, in his address, cited the need for “courageous and intelligent leadership.” “It is because Rabbi Magil can give you that kind of leadership that I am happy to be here tonight,” Professor Finkelstein said.
The services were opened with a processional and invocation was by Rabbi Harry Silverstone of Temple Beth David. The address of welcome to Rabbi Magil was delivered by Charles Polakoff, president of Temple Beth El since 1910. Addresses were given by Rabbi S. Joshua Zambrowsky, chief rabbi of the Buffalo Council of Jewish Congregations; Rabbi Joseph Gitin of Temple Emanu-El and Rabbi Joseph L. Fink of Temple Beth Zion. Rabbi Gitin delivered the closing prayer.
