Mahmoud Abbas called on Hamas to hand over to P.A. custody an Israeli soldier held hostage. The Palestinian Authority president said in an interview with the London-based newspaper Asharq al-Awsat published Tuesday that he wants to be able to negotiate directly with Israel on the return of Cpl. Gilad Shalit, and therefore needs to have the soldier under his control.
Ehud Olmert said foreign emissaries are trying to arrange peace talks between Israel and Lebanon. “Things are going to happen in Lebanon,” the Israeli prime minister said in a Channel 2 television interview aired late Monday.
