Mahmoud Abbas postponed a deadline for Hamas to accept a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict or face a Palestinian referendum. Abbas originally gave the radical Islamic group until Tuesday to accept the proposal composed by Palestinians held in Israeli jails. But with debate still raging between Hamas, which runs the Palestinian Authority government, and Abbas’ more moderate Fatah faction, the president put off the deadline until Thursday.
