Mahmoud Abbas told U.S. Jewish leaders he wants peace, but that Israel must stop playing into the hands of extremists. Meeting in Washington with American Jewish leaders, the Palestinian Authority prime minister said Israel must stop building settlements, dismantle its security fence and checkpoints and release all Palestinian prisoners, according to several U.S. Jewish leaders who attended. But many came away convinced that Abbas is committed to peace.
