Austrian Jewry will celebrate the 800th anniversary of the “Rambam,” Rabbi Moses Maimonides, great Jewish philosopher and scholar with a “Maimonides Month,” a conference of rabbis, Hebrew teachers and cantors called by the Histadruth Ivrith, decided.
During the celebration, all the rabbis in Vienna will devote their sermons to the life and teachings of Rabbi Maimonides, Jewish teachers will devote time to a study of his life in their classes, and lectures dealing with his life will be delivered in Jewish institutions and clubs.
One of the chief events of the celebration will be a meeting in the auditorium of the Vienna Concert House. Efforts will be made to secure the publication of articles on the Jewish scholar in the general press and a popular pamphlet and a learned work will be published in connection with the celebration.
The conference voted to establish contact with the Central Maimonides Committee in Cairo, Egypt, to further proposed publication of a complete edition of all the works of Rabbi Maimonides.
Chief Rabbi Dr. David Feuchtwang, Dr. David Rothblum and Professor M. Kraus were appointed to take charge of the celebration.
