Maine State Police declared the van involved in the accident that killed an Orthodox Jewish camper and injured 13 others to be mechanically sound. Gedalia Rosenblatt, 15, of New York died in the Aug. 6 crash on Interstate 95. The Bangor Daily News on Tuesday quoted police as saying that the critically injured driver, Yehoshua Hoffman, must still be interviewed. Hoffman, 22, has retained a lawyer. The van hit the median, crossed the road and rolled down an embankment. Most of the 13 passengers reportedly were not wearing seatbelts. The campers from Bethel Wilderness Camp in upstate New York were on their way to a canoeing outing in Maine.
