Maj. Gen. Dan Halutz was named deputy chief of staff of the Israel Defense Forces. The move puts Halutz, currently commander of the Israel Air Force, in line to take over from Lt. Gen. Moshe Ya’alon when Ya’alon steps down in summer 2005.
