A memorial tribute to Professor Albert Einstein by American Jewry was announced today by a group of the major Jewish organizations in the United States. The memorial tribute will take place at Town Hall in New York on May 15.
Sponsoring organizations include B’nai B’rith, Jewish Labor Committee, National Community Relations Advisory Council, American Zionist Council, which speaks for all groups in this country, American Jewish Congress, Jewish War Veterans of the United States United Synagogue of America and American Zionist Committee for Public Affairs. A further list of sponsoring organization will be announced within a few days.
A statement issued by the sponsors said that “the program will provide for an appraisal by three outstanding Americans of Dr. Einstein’s contributions as a scientist, a champion of human rights and champion of justice for the Jew.” The statement did not announce names of the three speakers, but stressed that “consistent with the humility of Professor Einstein, a program of utmost simplicity is planned.”
