One of the most strange “man hunts” in history is under way today in Chicago and throughout the United States.
It is a search for husbands-1,000 of them, who deserted their wives and families in Poland many years ago.
Of this number 125 are believed to be in the United States, and orthodox rabbis of Chicago and leaders of the local Jewish community are engaged in the search.
The search is being directed by Rabbi Eliohu Lifshitz, delegate of the Polish Rabbinate, alderman, president of the community of Gritz, Poland, and prominent social worker, who has come here for that purpose.
The rabbi hopes to force either the husbands to re-unite with their families or divorce their wives, since a Jewish wife, according to the orthodox law, may not divorce her husband on grounds of desertion unless she knows what became of him.
